Troye Sivan announces new album with single and Nicole Kidman video

Troye Sivan kicks off a new chapter in his career with the release of "She's the Best," the title track of his upcoming fourth studio album, out October 9. It follows his 2023 album "Something to Give Each Other," which he supported last year on the joint SWEAT tour with his close friend Charli XCX, who was simultaneously celebrating her album "Brat" during the shared arena run.

The single comes with a music video directed by Gordon Von Steiner, who previously worked with Sivan on the videos for "Rush," "Got Me Started," and "One of Your Girls." The new video places Sivan at the center of a club filled with drag queens, including Sasha Colby. His fellow Australian Nicole Kidman appears as a co star, sipping a drink while watching Sivan, before joining him in his drag look at the end of the video.

The track was written by Sivan alongside Jack Antonoff, Leland, Styalz Fuego, and George Daniel, the drummer of The 1975 and husband of Charli XCX. It marked Daniel's first collaboration with Sivan. And if you listen closely to the end of the song, you'll catch a familiar voice: Charli XCX has a small guest appearance. "The vocal that you hear at the end of She's the Best, it's Charli," Sivan shared during a conversation at the Rolling Stone Studio. "We've found ways to work these women into the songs. I don't want to speak for him, but I think for both George and I, Charli is obviously a very, very, very special person to both of us, and so to have her on that song in some small way is very meaningful to us."

The single is a love letter to the women in Sivan's life. The song portrays an unnamed woman through seemingly everyday details that carry a lot of personal weight for him. Sivan describes the lyrics as a collage inspired by several female figures in his personal world. "She's the Best was the first time I wasn't trying to psychoanalyze myself, and I wasn't writing about men," he said. "The one thing that has been constant in my whole life is the women in my life, and the feminine people in my life." He also mentioned names like Ariana Grande and Lily Rose Depp, both of whom he has collaborated with musically in the past.

On the upcoming album, Sivan said in a statement: "'She's the Best' is a painting that captures my life in all of its moods and colours. It explores the high octane highs of the last few years, and the solitude and longing that sat underneath. It's chaotic, layered, organic, troubled and alive. It feels like the truest and most creative version of myself I've ever shared." The album arrives on October 9.
