About
Also known as: Nine Nine Nine
Named after the UK's emergency telephone number, 999 are a London punk rock band who turned down Chrissie Hynde, Jon Moss and Tony James before settling on their classic lineup in late 1976. That lineup of Nick Cash, Guy Days, Jon Watson and Pablo LaBritain quickly became regulars on the London punk scene, with their self financed debut single 'I'm Alive' winning over the clubs and landing them a deal with United Artists around the same time as the Buzzcocks. Their second single 'Nasty Nasty' was later called a seminal punk record, and 'Emergency' made Mojo magazine's list of the best punk rock singles ever. While critical heat in Britain cooled, 999 built a serious following in the US through relentless touring, and their albums The Biggest Prize in Sport and Concrete both charted on the Billboard 200. AllMusic summed it up well, calling them one of the longest lived groups of the punk era, a tag they've earned through decades of recording and playing live, right up to their 2020 album Bish! Bash! Bosh!
