Few bands have shaped New York hardcore as fundamentally as Agnostic Front. Founded in 1980 by guitarist Vinnie Stigma and later anchored by vocalist Roger Miret, they helped define the raw, confrontational sound that put CBGB on the map for punk and hardcore fans. Their 1984 debut Victim in Pain is still regarded as a cornerstone of the New York hardcore scene, while 1986's Cause for Alarm pushed them into crossover thrash territory, blending hardcore aggression with thrash metal velocity. That album even featured lyrics by Peter Steele and drumming by Louie Beato of Carnivore. Over four decades they have kept the spirit alive through lineup changes, legal trouble, and genre shifts, releasing records that range from stripped down punk to full metal crunch. My Life My Way came out in 2011, The American Dream Died followed in 2015, and Get Loud! landed in 2019. A 2022 video for The Eliminator 2020 shows they are still very much at it, carrying the NYHC torch with no signs of letting go.
