Also known as: Alewya Demmisse
Alewya is an Ethiopian Egyptian artist, singer and producer born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Shepherd's Bush, West London. Her sound pulls from a genuinely eclectic range of sources: her father's Qur'anic recitations, the Ethiopian music of Teddy Afro and Mulatu Astatke that her mother played at home, her older brother's alternative rock records, and her own deep interest in garage, grime, R&B and hip hop. The result is something that doesn't sit neatly in any one box. She released her debut album Panther in Mode in 2021 and has since performed at COLORS, Boiler Room Berlin and Glastonbury, and toured with Little Simz. Her album ZERO, which she largely produced herself, takes on the experience of being human, embracing contradiction, adventure and the collision of different worlds.
