Thee Marloes grew out of Surabaya, Indonesia, where guitarist Sinatrya Dharaka and drummer Tommy Satwick bonded over hiphop, soul and reggae before vocalist and keyboardist Natassya Sianturi completed the lineup. Her warm voice carries songs in both Indonesian and English, circling themes of love, loss and the things that resist easy description. The trio plays soul with fluid basslines, organ and guitar kept spacious enough to let Sianturi breathe. Their debut album 'Perak' wore its love of classic soul openly. Follow up 'Di Hotel Malibu' keeps that foundation but moves more freely between delicate ballads and bright, floor ready tracks. Their Indonesian roots come through more deliberately here too: 'Boru' is sung entirely in Batak, a language from northern Sumatra, while 'Under the Silver Moon' and 'I'd Be Lost' push toward the dancefloor. The record came together after two years of touring the world, yet stayed rooted in where the band started.
