Jalen Ngonda makes the kind of soul music that sounds like it was beamed in from a golden era Motown session, warm, unhurried, and genuinely felt. The Liverpool based American artist built his reputation the hard way, playing local shows and self releasing music before landing a deal with the legendary Daptone Records. His 2023 debut album Come Around and Love Me hit number one on the UK Independent Album Breakers Chart and earned praise from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Kehlani, and Elton John, who named the title track one of his favourite songs of that year and flagged Ngonda as an artist to watch. Since then he has only grown. His 2024 single Anyone in Love reached number 14 on the UK Singles Downloads Chart, and Rolling Stone placed him on their Future of Music list in 2025, calling him the leading soul revivalist of this decade. A Jazz FM Soul Act of the Year win and two Glastonbury appearances seal the deal: this is an artist doing something genuinely special with a classic sound.
