Greentea Peng, the London artist born Aria Wells, makes soul heavy music that pulls from neo soul, R&B, dub reggae and psychedelic soul in a way that feels deeply personal without being self indulgent. Her stage name came from a box of Green Tea Seng she picked up at a Peruvian chemist, with the UK slang word 'peng' tacked on because she liked both the word and the woman in a weed bikini printed on the box. Her debut EP Sensi, released in 2018, set the tone: lush, layered tracks that sit somewhere between beauty and emotional weight. The follow up EP Rising landed in November 2019, and the single 'Downers' on the COLORS YouTube channel hit 2.5 million views by October that year, putting her on a much wider radar. The video for 'Mister Sun (miss da sun)' added to that momentum with its dreamlike, kaleidoscopic visuals. Beyond the music she is known for her distinctive look, full body tattoos, piercings and statement jewellery.
