About

Also known as: Alexei Volodin

Alexei Volodin is a Russian pianist with a discography that spans some of the most demanding repertoire in classical music, from Rachmaninov's piano works and Chopin to Beethoven's fearsome Hammerklavier Sonata. His 2003 first prize at the Géza Anda International Piano Competition put him firmly on the map, and he has since performed with prestigious orchestras and given recitals across the globe. His recorded output shows a real affinity for the Russian canon alongside deep engagement with the Viennese classics. Albums pairing Beethoven's late sonatas with Rachmaninov's Moments musicaux and Prokofiev's Seventh Sonata give a sense of where his artistic interests lie: weighty, intense music that rewards a pianist who thinks as well as plays. He is based in Russia and represented internationally by the respected agency HarrisonParrott.
