And Also the Trees have been quietly doing their own thing since 1979, when they formed in Inkberrow, Worcestershire, and their sound has never really fit neatly into any one box. Gothic rock is the most common label, but their music carries the weight of British Romanticism, poetic lyrics and a deep connection to the English countryside that sets them apart from most of their peers. An early demo tape landed them a support slot on a Cure tour in 1981, and Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst both had a hand in their early recordings. Over four decades they have built up a substantial catalogue, from their self titled 1984 debut through to Born Into the Waves in 2016 and beyond. Their trademark guitar sound, first introduced on the 1985 EP A Room Lives in Lucy, gave them their only UK Independent Chart entry. Their 2022 album The Bone Carver shows the band still very much active, with recent uploads including tracks like Under The Stars, Domed and The Beautiful Silence.
