About
Also known as: Angel Olson
Angel Olsen has a way of making each record feel like a completely different version of herself, which is part of what keeps people hooked. Starting out with the spare, ghostly folk of Half Way Home in 2012, she gradually expanded her sound across six studio albums, arriving at the lush, orchestral drama of All Mirrors in 2019, which critics at Pitchfork and The Guardian called breathtaking and genuinely challenging. My Woman from 2016 was a turning point too, landing on plenty of best of lists and earning comparisons to some of the sharpest indie rock of that decade. She has never been content to stay in one lane. Whole New Mess stripped the All Mirrors material back to its bones, and Aisles saw her tackle 1980s covers with real commitment. She has collaborated with Mark Ronson, Sharon Van Etten, and film composer Emile Mosseri, and her track "Windows" ended up soundtracking a pivotal moment in the first season of 13 Reasons Why. Big Time arrived in 2022, followed by the EP Forever Means in 2023, proving she keeps plenty of ideas in reserve.
