About
Named after a garbage dump in Haugesund, Årabrot have always had a taste for the confrontational. The Norwegian noise rock outfit built their reputation on an intense, sprawling sound that pulls from doom metal, post punk, sludge, and grunge, and they've worked with some heavy hitters along the way, including producers Steve Albini and Billy Anderson. Their album Solar Anus won the Norwegian Spellemannprisen in the metal category and earned wild praise internationally, with one critic calling it "a tidal wave of noise from few hands." Lyrically, Årabrot go deep, drawing on Dante, the Bible, Bataille, Camus, and Aleister Crowley, among others. Their live history is just as unconventional: they've performed scores to silent films like Häxan and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and vocalist Kjetil Nernes reportedly completed a nine day tour after blowing his lung on the opening night. Recent tracks like "Hangman's House" and "We Want Blood" suggest the band shows no sign of softening up.
