Ásgeir broke through in Iceland under the name Ásgeir Trausti, with his 2012 debut album Dýrð í dauðaþögn producing multiple chart toppers on the Icelandic singles chart, including "Leyndarmál", which sat at number one for six weeks. When an English version of the album, In the Silence, arrived in 2014, singer John Grant helped translate the lyrics and rework the production, giving Ásgeir an international foothold with the record charting in Belgium and the Netherlands. Singles like "King and Cross" and "Going Home" extended his reach further into Europe. His music sits somewhere between folk warmth and atmospheric art pop, and he has kept developing that sound across several records. His third album Bury the Moon, released in 2020 on One Little Indian Records, was a double album released alongside an Icelandic counterpart called Sátt. His fourth studio album Time on My Hands followed in 2022, preceded by the single "Snowblind". He also plays guitar with the Icelandic band The Lovely Lion and has appeared as a featured artist on tracks by Eivør and Eydís Evensen, among others.
