James Vincent McMorrow has built a career on restless reinvention, starting with the spare, intimate folk of his 2010 debut Early in the Morning, which earned him a European Border Breakers Award and wide acclaim outside Ireland. He recorded his second album Post Tropical in a remote Texas studio on a pecan farm near the Mexican border, a setting he described as surreal, and one you can apparently hear in the warm, ambient texture of the record. By 2016 he had pivoted toward R&B influenced production on We Move, collaborating with Nineteen85 and Frank Dukes, and his cover of Wicked Game landed in the Game of Thrones season six trailer. He followed that with True Care, Grapefruit Season produced with Paul Epworth and Kenny Beats, and two more records since. Seven studio albums in, he shows no sign of slowing down.
