RY X, the stage name of Australian artist Ry Cuming, has carved out a genuinely singular space where indie folk introspection meets electronic production. His 2013 EP Berlin put him on the map internationally, with the title track charting in France, Germany, and the UK, and even catching the ear of Sam Smith, who covered it. From there his world kept expanding: he co fronted The Acid with Adam Freeland and Steve Nalepa, teamed up with Frank Wiedemann as Howling, and racked up collaborations with Diplo, ODESZA, Duke Dumont, and Black Coffee, plus a commissioned remix of Rihanna's Love on the Brain. His fourth album Blood Moon, recorded almost entirely by himself at his home studio in Topanga, came out in June 2022 and landed on the same day as Drake's Honestly, Nevermind, a record Cuming had actually co written and co produced the track Sticky on. Blood Moon featured Ólafur Arnalds, and videos shot in Iceland added a visual ambition to match the music. More recently, the 2023 single Moths arrived with a video filmed in the Sahara desert, and a sold out show at London's St Paul's Cathedral with the London Contemporary Orchestra drew a waitlist of over 4000 people.
