About
Two Grammy wins for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance tells you a lot about where the Attacca Quartet sits in the contemporary classical world. The New York based string quartet has built a particularly close working relationship with composer Caroline Shaw, taking home that Grammy first for Orange in 2020 and then again for Evergreen three years later. That kind of repeat recognition for work with a single composer says something real about the chemistry involved. Formed at the Juilliard School, the quartet has always kept one foot in the classical canon and another in newer, boundary pushing territory. Their repertoire spans from traditional chamber music through minimalism and contemporary writing, and the current lineup of Amy Schroeder, Domenic Salerni, Nathan Schram, and Andrew Yee has been locked in since 2020. If you want a string quartet that takes modern composition seriously, these four are hard to overlook.
