About
Third Coast Percussion made history in 2017 as the first percussion group to win a Grammy Award in a chamber music category, taking home Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for their Steve Reich album on Cedille Records. Steve Reich himself admitted the recording left him stunned, saying it made him lean in and listen to his own pieces in ways he'd never experienced before. The Chicago quartet, made up of Sean Connors, Robert Dillon, Peter Martin, and David Skidmore, works squarely in contemporary classical and minimalist territory, but their collaborator list tells a broader story: Philip Glass, Jlin, Devonté Hynes, Missy Mazzoli, and footwork producers have all been part of the mix. They've since earned four more Grammy nominations, including one in the composer category, and their commissioned work keeps growing, with pieces from Ivan Trevino and Philip Glass among the recent additions.
