About
Bass Drum of Death started as a one man project when Oxford, Mississippi's John Barrett figured out how to simultaneously play guitar and bass drum, and that scrappy DIY spirit has stuck around ever since. He recorded the band's first two albums entirely on his own, and the debut LP GB City came out in 2011 on Fat Possum Records. The band's wiry, high energy garage punk has landed their songs in some pretty high profile places, from Grand Theft Auto V and Forza Horizon to The Vampire Diaries and the pilot of 9 1 1. Over the years Bass Drum of Death has grown into a proper band, with touring members and, eventually, Barrett's brother Jim joining in on the collaborative 7 inch Too Cold to Hold. Their fifth studio album Say I Won't marked a return to Fat Possum in 2023, and they captured some of that live energy on the 2024 release Live... and Let Die, recorded in Chicago. A sixth studio album, SIX, followed in 2025.
