About
Also known as: Bonje Cornelia Swart, Bonnie St. Clair, Bonny St. Claire
Bonnie St. Claire has been a fixture in Dutch pop since the late 1960s, racking up a string of hits that blends classic nederpop with a flair for theatrical delivery. Her 1970 single "I Won't Stand Between Them" got things going with a bang, hitting number 6 in the Netherlands, and she kept the momentum going through the 1980s with crowd favourites like "Pierrot", "Bonnie kom je buiten spelen" and a Dutch rendition of Bette Midler's The Rose, released as "De Roos". She has always worked well with others. As part of the duo Bonnie & José alongside José Hoebee, she scored a Top 40 hit in 1984 with a cover of ABBA's "Cassandra", from an album of ABBA songs that Björn Ulvaeus himself approved. Years later she teamed up with Gerard Joling as Bonnie & Gerard, and their 2010 single "Morgen Wordt Alles Anders" climbed to number 2 in the Dutch charts.
