BT

About

Also known as: B.T, B.T., BT Transeau, Brian Transeau

Few producers have bent electronic music quite like BT, the Maryland born artist whose obsessive technical approach turned trance and IDM into something genuinely new. He holds patents for stutter editing, a technique where tiny sound fragments are looped and manipulated at near audio rates, and even landed a Guinness World Record for cramming 6,178 vocal edits into a single track. His debut album Ima from 1995 helped shape the trance sound by blending house beats with sweeping New Age textures, and the collaboration with Tori Amos on "Blue Skies" took him to number one on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Beyond the club, BT has written and produced alongside an almost absurd range of names, from David Bowie and Madonna to Death Cab for Cutie and Depeche Mode. He also scores films and TV, with credits including The Fast and the Furious, Monster, and Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, plus a four hour, 256 channel installation piece for the Tomorrowland area at Shanghai Disneyland. His Grammy nominated album These Hopeful Machines and the more recent A Song Across Wires show he never stopped pushing.
