About
Also known as: DJ Sasha
Few DJs shaped the sound of progressive house quite like Sasha, born Alexander Paul Coe in Wales. His rise through the rave scene around Manchester in the late eighties led to a residency at Shelley's Laserdrome in Stoke on Trent, where he started developing the blending, fluid style that would make him a fixture at clubs like Renaissance alongside John Digweed. The two became one of electronic music's most celebrated partnerships, releasing mix albums like Northern Exposure and the triple disc Renaissance: The Mix Collection before taking up a long running residency at New York's Twilo. As a solo artist Sasha has always leaned toward the experimental side. His 2002 album Airdrawndagger was fully instrumental and notably understated, while his Involver series built entire projects around the art of remixing. His remix of Felix da Housecat's Watching Cars Go By even earned a Grammy nomination. He also runs his own label, emFire, through Renaissance Records, releasing his own productions and reworks on his own terms.
