John Digweed is one of those DJs whose career is tangled up with the story of dance music itself. With Sasha, he helped invent the club compilation as a proper commercial product, the 1994 Renaissance: The Mix Collection, before then it was mostly DJs passing mixtapes around informally. The pair carried it on with Northern Exposure and Global Underground, and became a big deal in progressive house. Their monthly residency at New York's Twilo ran for years, with sets stretching eight to twelve hours, until the club was shut down in 2001. On his own, Digweed started Bedrock Records and teamed up with Nick Muir as Bedrock, whose first track, For What You Dream Of, ended up in Trainspotting. He topped DJ Mag's poll in 2001, and for years he fronted the radio show Transitions, which has now passed 800 episodes and still goes out online.
