About
Winning $100,000 at the inaugural 2016 M Prize Competition, the largest chamber music award in the world at the time, tells you a lot about the Calidore String Quartet's trajectory. Formed at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, the Los Angeles rooted group went on to become the first North American ensemble to receive a fellowship from the London based Borletti Buitoni Trust, and they picked up an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2018. Along the way they swept the Fischoff and Coleman national competitions and took top prizes at the ARD Munich and Hamburg international competitions. Their debut album, featuring string quartets by Mendelssohn and Haydn, was called "the epitome of confidence and finesse" by Gramophone. Their second record surveys music from World War I, released on the French label Éditions Hortus. They perform regularly at venues like Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and Lincoln Center, and appear at major festivals from Verbier to Ravinia. As Artists of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, they are firmly part of the international chamber music conversation.
