About

Also known as: Franck Hueso, カーペンター・ブリュット

Behind the name Carpenter Brut is Franck Hueso, a French musician from Poitiers who built his sound around a deliberate collision of horror film atmospheres, metal, and electronic music. He kept his identity deliberately low key, letting the music do the talking, and started out by releasing three EPs between 2012 and 2015 that were later bundled into his debut album Trilogy. Two tracks from that record, Le Perv and Roller Mobster, landed on the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack, which brought him a whole new audience. His 2018 album Leather Teeth shook things up a bit, trading some of the brutal darkness of Trilogy for a glam metal influenced sound with a full narrative concept built around a fictional shy American teenager turned rock frontman. Hueso described it as inspired by Judas Priest and 80s glam rock, and got Kristoffer Rygg of Ulver and Mat McNerney of Grave Pleasures in to handle vocals. He also scored the film Blood Machines, a sci fi collaboration with director duo Seth Ickerman, who had previously shot the visually wild Turbo Killer music video.
