Few acts captured the late 1990s French house moment quite like Cassius. The Paris duo of Philippe Zdar and Hubert Boombass kicked off with hip hop production work before pivoting hard into electronic music, scoring a genuine crossover hit with 'Cassius 1999', which landed at number seven on the UK Singles Chart. Their debut album of the same name followed quickly, and the duo kept pushing their sound across four more records over two decades. Second album Au Rêve brought in Jocelyn Brown and Ghostface Killah, while 2016's Ibifornia featured Pharrell Williams, Cat Power and Mike D. Their song 'I Love U So' even ended up sampled on Jay Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne. Zdar's death in 2019 brought Cassius to a close, with their fifth album Dreems serving as a final chapter.
