About
Chanel Beads is the project of Shane Lavers, based between Seattle and New York City, built around layered combinations of real, synthetic, and manipulated instruments that land somewhere between dream pop and experimental art pop. Lavers draws from 1980s touchstones like the Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout, and David Sylvian, weaving degraded audio clips and found sounds into pop structures that resist convention and build toward emotional payoffs. Vocalist Maya McGrory and experimental violinist Zachary Paul round out the live and studio lineup. The project's debut album, Your Day Will Come, arrived in April 2024 on Jagjaguwar and earned solid critical praise, a 7.6 from Pitchfork and 78 on Metacritic, with reviewers noting its unusual beauty despite oblique melodies and unstable production. That visibility led to tours supporting Lorde on her North American arena run, festival spots at South by Southwest and the Pitchfork Music Festival, and opening slots for Mount Kimbie. A second album, deliberately given the same title Your Day Will Come, followed in June 2026, with The Guardian calling Chanel Beads an indie breakout of the year.
