Chappell Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, built her name on a sound that pulls from 80s synth pop and a visual style rooted in drag queen culture, theatrical makeup and all. After years of grinding through label trouble, she was dropped by Atlantic Records in 2020 following a string of singles that didn't click commercially, including the now beloved "Pink Pony Club". She went back to Missouri, worked a drive through, and kept writing anyway. Partnering back up with producer Dan Nigro turned everything around. Her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess became a genuine sleeper hit, eventually peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200. The single "Good Luck, Babe!" broke her internationally, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and scoring a UK number one for "Pink Pony Club". She capped it all off by winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2025, with "The Subway" giving her a second UK chart topper the same year.
