About
Charlotte Haesen is an Amsterdam singer who works at the intersection of French chanson and her own original compositions. Her show 'La Blancheur des Cygnes' (De Witheid der Zwanen) pairs her vocals with Strijkkwartet Café des Chansons in an intimate setting, drawing on the songbooks of Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel and Barbara alongside her own writing. The programme centres on a portrait of women across time, exploring beauty, love, dependence and independence, fragility and strength. What sets her apart is that she doesn't only sing from personal experience. She also gives voice to women who are nothing like her, and pulls that off with real conviction.
