About
Few bands outside Japan have made metalcore hit as hard as Crystal Lake, the Tokyo outfit that has been at it since 2002. Their sound pulls from the heaviest corners of the genre, and over more than two decades they have built a devoted international following, partly through relentless touring alongside acts like Parkway Drive, August Burns Red and Crossfaith, and partly through records that genuinely deliver. Their 2018 album Helix, released on SharpTone Records, pushed them firmly onto the global heavy music map, while singles like 'Aeon' and 'The Circle' showed a band comfortable with both brutality and atmosphere. Guitarist Yudai Miyamoto is the only remaining founding member, and the lineup that formed around vocalist Ryo Kinoshita has proven to be the band's most potent. Their EP Cubes debuted at number five on the Oricon indie chart back in 2014, which tells you something about their standing at home. Their latest studio album, The Weight of Sound, arrived in January 2026, keeping the momentum going for one of Japanese metal's most consistent acts.
