About
Currents play a brand of metalcore that leans hard into djent textures and progressive weight, built around heavy riffs, crushing breakdowns, and Brian Wille's ability to shift between clean melodies and visceral screams. Formed in Newtown, Connecticut in 2011, the band went through serious lineup turbulence, and by 2018 not a single original member was still in the fold. That kind of upheaval would sink most acts, but Currents kept sharpening their sound. Their 2020 album The Way It Ends won them serious critical respect, with one reviewer suggesting it made a whole wave of modern metalcore bands feel somewhat irrelevant. Their third full length, The Death We Seek, landed in 2023 via SharpTone Records, preceded by a run of singles including "So Alone" and the title track. Guitarist Chris Wiseman also co founded Shadow of Intent, giving you a sense of the technical and heavy ambitions at the core of this band.
