About
Silent Planet named themselves after a C. S. Lewis sci fi novel, which tells you something about the kind of band they are: thoughtful, literary, and heavier than most. The Azusa, California metalcore group built their reputation on concept driven albums where every song doubles as a window into a specific historical trauma or psychological crisis. Their early EP lastsleep drew on World War II survivor stories, while later records tackled the Spanish Civil War, consumer despair, and vocalist Garrett Russell's own time in a mental hospital. Five studio albums in, with Superbloom arriving in late 2023, Silent Planet have stayed independent without losing any of their ambition. The current lineup of Russell, guitarist Mitchell Stark, drummer Alex Camarena, and bassist Nick Pocock keeps pushing progressive metalcore into genuinely interesting territory.
