Daan Hofman

About

Daan Hofman is a Dutch singer and songwriter who blends pop, chanson and Dutch lyrics into something a bit offbeat. For years he played his songs in theatres, living rooms, clubs and at poetry festivals all over the Netherlands, and he has opened for André Manuel, Raymond van het Groenewoud and Ramses Shaffy. His albums are Fakkels van Suiker (2008) and Frederic & de Katoenvelden (2013). More recently he has mostly worked as a composer for film, theatre and documentary. Then came Mijn Zee, a project built on poems and texts about the sea from several European countries. Marco Kunst translated and adapted the words, and Hofman turned them into playful, varied indie pop with a light psychedelic edge, giving poems by Brontë and Rilke a new life. Stormy waves, misty islands and sardines in a tin all turn up along the way.
