Dance Gavin Dance have spent nearly two decades proving that Sacramento can make some of the most genre bending rock around. The band blends post hardcore aggression with clean melodic vocals, math rock intricacy and pop hooks in a way that genuinely defies easy categorization, and that restless approach has earned them four top twenty albums on the Billboard 200. The revolving door of vocalists over the years, including Jonny Craig, Kurt Travis, and Tilian Pearson, has kept things unpredictable, while guitarist Will Swan, drummer Matthew Mingus, and harsh vocalist Jon Mess have been the consistent backbone. Their tenth album Jackpot Juicer arrived under painful circumstances after the death of bassist Tim Feerick in 2022, with Sergio Medina stepping in for live duties. The band also released a Target exclusive CD edition of the record featuring an additional disc of instrumentals. With Andrew Wells now handling clean vocal duties, Dance Gavin Dance keep pushing their sound into fresh territory, as unclassifiable and committed as ever.
