Few Dutch artists can claim a number one hit at age 13, but Danny de Munk pulled it off with "Ik voel me zo verdomd alleen," the title track from the 1984 film Ciske de Rat. The song spent three weeks at the top of the Dutch Top 40 and ended up being the best selling single in the Netherlands that year. Rather than fading out after his child star moment, de Munk reinvented himself as a musical theatre actor, landing the role of Marius in Les Misérables in 1991 and going on to headline twelve major Dutch productions including The Lion King and Elisabeth. He has kept a foot in both worlds ever since, releasing levenslied records alongside his theatre work. His 2008 album Hart en Ziel brought him back to the charts, and the single Tuig van de Richel, reworked from a Lil' Kleine track, showed he could move between generations with ease. He also appeared in the 2024 season of The Masked Singer, proving his audience is still very much there.
