About
Johnny Jewel is an American composer and visual artist who works exclusively with analogue equipment, a commitment that shapes every layer of his sound. He runs his own label, Italians Do It Better, and is a member of several acts on its roster. One of those is Desire, a Canadian and American electronic group currently based in Palm Springs, where vocalist Megan Louise and Jewel blend synthpop with Italo disco, disco noir and film aesthetics into something that lands squarely on the dancefloor. Desire broke through internationally when 'Under Your Spell' featured in the 2011 neo noir film Drive, and the track has also been played during runway shows for Dior and Chanel. Their album 'Escape' draws inspiration from the vivid, lurid world of 1970s giallo cinema, and was recorded using instruments including a Minikorg, Jupiter 8, Roland 909, Mellotron, Simmons Rhythm Modules, a String Machine, D 50 and Fender Rhodes. Live, the project extends into a full audiovisual experience.
