Standing 6 ft 6 in tall and performing in platforms and extravagant costumes inspired by Grace Jones and Missy Elliott, DJ Rush is hard to miss on a stage. Born Isaiah Major in Chicago, he cut his teeth playing marathon sets of up to ten hours at legendary city clubs like the Music Box and the Warehouse. By 1991 he was releasing records on Trax Records, and a move to Berlin in 1996 dropped him into a techno scene that was still buzzing from the fall of the Wall. His 1998 record "Motherfucking Bass" became a genuine European club anthem, and he followed that breakthrough by launching the booking agency and record label Kne'Deep with Tina Panitzke. He calls his sound "Hard Energy," a style rooted in house but pulling in threads of jazz, disco and soul. He sometimes MCs while DJing, which is exactly as chaotic and entertaining as it sounds. Awakenings, Tomorrowland and Sziget are all on his performance list.
