About
Polish cellist Dobrawa Czocher has spent over fifteen years performing as a duo with compatriot pianist Hania Rani, a partnership that produced the widely praised neoclassical album Inner Symphonies. Her solo work takes things somewhere different. On her second solo album, State Of Matter, she steps out as a vocalist for the first time, weaving her cello playing together with synthesizers and electronics. The result pulls in influences from Brahms and Philip Glass through to GoGo Penguin, yet always sounds unmistakably like her. The combination of classical instincts and electronic texture gives the music a hypnotic, hard to categorise quality that sits comfortably across contemporary classical, neoclassical and crossover territory.
