Is Doe Maar coming to the Netherlands?
About
Doe Maar built their reputation by blending punk, ska, and reggae into a sound that was distinctly their own, sung entirely in Dutch, which turned out to be a pretty radical move at the time. After a shaky start with their debut, they hit their stride once Henny Vrienten joined on bass, and the 1982 album Doris Day en andere Stukken sent them to the top of the Dutch charts. Their run of four number one albums in the Netherlands made them one of the most successful acts in Dutch pop history. They called it quits in 1984, came back for a reunion in 2000 with a new album called Klaar, and kept popping up over the years for tours and special projects. In 2012 they released Versies/Limmen Tapes, a double album pairing new versions of classic songs with rap covers by artists including Gers Pardoel and Extince. The band's story came to a close when frontman Henny Vrienten passed away in April 2022.
