Named after Dutch architect Willem Dudok, who wrote passionately about the shared foundations of music and architecture, this Amsterdam string quartet has been quietly building one of the more impressive discographies in Dutch chamber music since forming in 2009. They won multiple prizes at international competitions between 2011 and 2013, including the Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition, and picked up the Borletti Buitoni Trust Award in 2018. Their recording output covers serious ground: complete string quartets by Ligeti, Haydn's Op. 20 set, and works by Mendelssohn, Weinberg, Shostakovich and more, first on Resonus Classics and later on Rubicon Classics. Recent albums include Reflections, pairing Shostakovich with Grażyna Bacewicz, and What Remains, featuring music by Joey Roukens, Steve Reich and Messiaen. They have also collaborated with an eclectic mix of artists, from countertenor Philippe Jaroussky to saxophonist Erik Bosgraaf, and in 2024 performed as soloists with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest at the Concertgebouw.
