Few bands defined the look and sound of the early 1980s quite like Duran Duran. Formed in Birmingham by Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, the group built their reputation on a fusion of disco, new wave and Roxy Music influenced pop, powered by videos that became fixtures on the young MTV channel. Songs like Hungry Like the Wolf and The Reflex turned them into genuine superstars, with the kind of fan hysteria that gets its own name: Duranmania. A View to a Kill, their James Bond theme, added another chapter to a run of hits that few acts of the era could match. After various lineup changes, side projects and a dip in fortunes through the late 1980s and early 1990s, the classic five piece reunited in the early 2000s and proved they still had something to offer. The 2004 album Astronaut was well received, and the band kept releasing new material well into the following decade. Their 2021 album Future Past debuted at number three in the UK, their highest chart position since 1983.
