About
DVS1, the alias of Zak Khutoretsky, is a Minneapolis based DJ and techno producer who has built his reputation largely on the strength of his sets rather than his studio output. He plays Berghain six to eight times a year, has headlined Dekmantel and Decibel, and has shared the booth with techno pioneers Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. His first release landed on Ben Klock's Klockworks label in 2009, and he has since launched his own imprint HUSH and a sub label called Mistress Recordings. He is also an obsessive vinyl collector, sitting on a personal stash of over 30,000 records. Beyond DJing and production, Khutoretsky has put real energy into reshaping how the electronic music economy works. In 2022 he launched Aslice, a platform that lets DJs voluntarily share a slice of their performance fees, around 5%, back to the producers whose tracks they played. Names like Richie Hawtin and Surgeon are already on board, and the idea has sparked a genuine conversation about the gap between DJ earnings and producer royalties.
