About
Norwegian conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen has built an impressive dual leadership role, serving as both general and artistic director of Bergen National Opera and chief conductor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest. He sharpened his craft studying with some serious heavyweights, including Jorma Panula in Stockholm and Leopold Hager in Vienna, and has taken master classes with Kurt Masur and David Zinman. His work spans classical and contemporary orchestral repertoire, with a clear pull toward large ensemble conducting. Jensen's profile rose significantly during his tenure as chief conductor of the NDR Radiophilharmonie from 2009 to 2014. His relationship with the Noord Nederlands Orkest grew from a guest appearance in 2018 into a full chief conductor appointment from the 2022 to 2023 season onward, a role extended through the 2026 to 2027 season. Bergen National Opera has similarly extended his contract through the end of 2030, signalling strong confidence in his artistic direction.
