About
Nicknamed 'The Queen of Forró', Elba Ramalho is one of Brazil's most decorated singers, having won the Brazilian Music Awards nineteen times. Born in Paraíba, she has built a catalog that stretches across forró, MPB and samba, and her live performances at São João festivals have become something of a tradition. Her forró carries real weight, the kind that gets a crowd moving without apology. She has collaborated with some heavy names in Brazilian music, including Alceu Valença and her first cousin Zé Ramalho. Her 2019 album O Ouro do Pó da Estrada scored a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Roots Album, and she followed that up with another nomination in the same category for Eu e Vocês in 2021. That kind of consistency over decades is no accident.
