About
Montréal's Elephant Stone have carved out a genuinely distinct corner of the psychedelic rock world by weaving traditional Indian instrumentation, sitar, tabla, and dilruba, into classic 1960s inspired pop and rock. Fronted by Rishi Dhir, who previously played in The High Dials, the band launched with their debut album The Seven Seas in 2009, which landed on the longlist for the Polaris Music Prize that same year. By the time their third album The Three Poisons came around in 2014, Elephant Stone were running in serious company: a remix cassette of that record featured contributions from Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Alex Maas of The Black Angels, Peter Holmstrom of The Dandy Warhols, and Tom Furse of The Horrors, among others. They have kept a steady pace since, releasing Ship of Fools in 2016, Hollow in 2020, and most recently Back Into the Dream in 2024.
