Rapping over atmospheric, bass heavy production with a thick Scouse accent, EsDeeKid has carved out a genuinely distinct space in UK underground rap. He keeps his face hidden behind a balaclava and his real name and age to himself, which only adds to the mystique. His 2024 single "Bally" with Rico Ace put him on the map internationally and earned a glowing writeup in Pitchfork's "The Ones" column, but it was "Phantom", also with Rico Ace, that turned into a genuine phenomenon, racking up over 300 million streams since its March 2025 release. His debut mixtape Rebel, out June 2025 on Lizzy Records, hit number 16 on the UK Albums Chart and landed on charts across Europe and the US Billboard 200. The Guardian flagged his "entertainingly debauched lyrics" while Dazed pointed to his menacing stage presence and all black masked look as central to the appeal. A bizarre side story added to his profile when internet users started theorising that he and actor Timothée Chalamet were the same person, a rumour that ended up with Chalamet actually rapping on a remix of EsDeeKid's track "4 Raws".
