About
Long before Pantera made groove tinged thrash metal a household name, Exhorder were already doing it out of New Orleans. The band's chugging, syncopated riffs and raw aggression earned them a reputation as pioneers of the sound, even as they remained largely under the radar. Their 1990 debut Slaughter in the Vatican and 1992 follow up The Law are considered landmarks of the genre, and Phil Anselmo himself was a fan early on. After years of breakups and reunions, Exhorder came back strong in 2017 with a new lineup built around founding vocalist and rhythm guitarist Kyle Thomas. They signed to Nuclear Blast and finally delivered a third album, Mourn the Southern Skies, in 2019. Their fourth record, Defectum Omnium, followed in 2024, proving the band still has plenty to say after nearly four decades of being criminally underappreciated.
