Fortune Child

About

Fortune Child is a power trio from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2021. Guitarist Buddy Crump, bassist Jon Ward, and drummer and lead vocalist Christian Powers combine rock and roll, blues, soul, and psychedelic influences into something that feels both weighty and surprisingly nimble. The reference points are clear enough: Led Zeppelin, Alice in Chains, The Black Crowes. But the band processes those influences through a modern lens rather than simply recreating them. Heavy riffs give way to soulful vocal passages, extended jams, and outward reaching psychedelic stretches, all held together by a tight, dynamic sense of interplay. Three musicians, one serious amount of noise. Fortune Child has shared stages with Joe Bonamassa, The Black Crowes, All Them Witches, and JJ Grey and Mofro, among others, and has worked in the studio with producer Kevin Elson, whose credits include Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Mr. Big. Live, the trio leans into improvisation and pure collective momentum, making a strong case for what a minimal lineup can actually do.
