About
Also known as: FUN LOVIN' CRIMINAL, Fun Lovin Criminals, Fun Loving Criminals, Fun Luvin' Criminals, The Fun Lovin' Criminals
Few bands made New York City feel as alive as Fun Lovin' Criminals did in the late 1990s. The trio of Huey Morgan, Brian "Fast" Leiser, and Steve Borgovini built their sound around a mix of rap, rock, blues, and jazz, with lyrics that swung between gritty street narratives and sharp, knowing humor. Their breakthrough hit "Scooby Snacks" sampled Quentin Tarantino films over a Tones on Tail guitar loop and an anthemic chorus, landing at UK No. 22 and eventually climbing to No. 12 on a re release. Their debut album Come Find Yourself peaked at No. 7 in the UK and spent over a year on the chart, while 100% Colombian followed with a darker, heavier sound, including the Barry White tribute "Love Unlimited". The band found their biggest chart moment with "Loco" in 2001, hitting No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart, and they remained a force in live performance well into the 2010s. Their 2010 album Classic Fantastic came out on their own Kilohertz label, a deliberate shift toward touring as their main focus. In November 2021, Huey Morgan announced his departure, with Leiser stepping up as lead vocalist alongside guitarist Naim Cortazzi.
