About
Gaahls Wyrd is the Bergen based black metal outfit built around Gaahl, the vocalist who made his name fronting Gorgoroth and God Seed. He launched the band in 2015 and from the start they drew heavily on material from his past projects, weaving in tracks from Gorgoroth albums like Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam and God Seed's debut alongside songs by Trelldom. Their live debut was captured and eventually pressed onto the limited hand numbered EP Bergen Nov '15, with guest Kvitrafn adding hurdy gurdy to the mix. Their first proper studio album, GastiR, Ghosts Invited, arrived in 2019 via Season of Mist, recorded at Solslottet Studios with Iver Sandøy of Enslaved behind the boards. It ended up rated third best metal album of the year by Rolling Stone and won the Norwegian Spellemann Award for Best Metal Album of 2019. A second studio album, Braiding the Stories, followed in 2025, showing the band has no intention of coasting on past glories.
