Ghostface Killah's whole style is built on something most rappers can't fake: a genuinely cinematic imagination. The Staten Island MC, born Dennis Coles, is a core member of Wu Tang Clan and widely regarded as one of the greatest storytellers rap has produced. Critics at Pitchfork put it plainly, calling him "the best, most colorful storyteller rap has ever seen", while Q magazine crowned him "rap's finest storyteller". His flow is loud and fast, packed with cryptic slang, emotional detours, and vivid non sequiturs that somehow always land. His 1996 debut Ironman hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and set the template, leaning into 1970s soul in a way Wu Tang hadn't done before. Supreme Clientele followed in 2000 and is still talked about as a high water mark, with Fishscale in 2006 cementing his reputation all over again. He runs his own label, Starks Enterprises, and has kept releasing records steadily, with Supreme Clientele 2 arriving in 2025.
