Girli, the London based pop punk artist born Amelia Kate Woodward Toomey, has built a reputation for music that refuses to sit still. The Guardian summed up her sound as veering between PC Music, bubblegum pop, pop punk and rap, each track treading a line between catchy and deliberately discomforting. Her lyrics dig into feminism, queer culture, sexuality and mental health, and she has always been upfront about the autobiographical nature of her songs. After releasing her debut album Odd One Out on PMR Records in 2019, she was dropped by the label and channelled the experience directly into the defiant single "Has Been". She bounced back on independent label AllPoints, releasing the EP Ex Talk in 2021 with a sound she described as nineties grunge mixed with seventies punk. Her second album Matriarchy landed in 2024 and showed a harder hitting side, cementing her place as one of the more uncompromising voices in British pop.
